I discovered Pilates as a teen following a debilitating car accident. Growing up I was active and loved sports. When I sustained a permanent neurologic injury that left my arm partially paralyzed returning to any physical activity felt impossible. I was fearful of re-injury, self-conscious to use bulky adaptive equipment and scared that I would be told I was physically unable.
Doctors told me I was lucky to be alive. I was given a second chance at life. So, I counted my blessings and buried my head in books. I became a physical therapist to help people like me.
The first time I got on a Pilates reformer and felt the flow of eccentric and concentric muscle contractions of my injured arm in sync with my “normal” arm I had my “ahh haa” moment. Using my PT brain I was able to provide comprehensive, challenging, individualized workouts to literally every-body. I afforded mobility to patients with everything from limb amputations to congestive heart failure to ACL tears and surgical repairs to weighing over 400lbs. My patients were incredibility grateful which gave me meaning and purpose. I was given a second chance to give others their second chances too.
As I continued my Pilates journey, I got stronger and more flexible; however something was still missing. I stretched religiously, paid for regular massages but I still felt “tight” and “restricted”. It felt deep and penetrating. Enter JFB-MFR or Myofascial Release.
After my first JFB-MFR session I felt light, lengthened and free. Not only did I receive incredible bodywork it gave me a space to safely and privately “unpack” the emotions literally buried in my injury. Now, not only have I been given a second chance at life, I have given myself permission to LIVE.
I would be honored to give you a second chance at LIFE,
Nya
